Melinda Noipo'Bushrope Bilum'large


Made from the bark of a tree called 'Reembarly'. This natural fibre takes months to be made into a fibre that can be woven.

Traditionally this bilum is used to carry babies and also for ceremonies. 

Crafted in the Southern Highlands of PNG from local women, Melinda is helping to generate income for their families. 

Melinda Noipo lives locally in Cairns and is originally from the Southern Highlands of PNG. This artisan is a talented weaver and maker of bilums whom also teaches these crafts
