Jane Dennis 'Emperor' Gyotaku print
Gyotaku & ink monoprint on Japanese kozo rice paper, 2018
This technique creates an image using fresh fish as the master plate.
Originally designed by Japanese Fishermen to record their fish species , they would take paper and ink out in their boat and would 'rub' an impression by painting over the whole fish body.
While several images maybe taken from each fish no two images remain the same.
Jane Dennis lives and works in Cook Town , FNQ.
